Women today are deciding to go against the normalcy of Joan Cleaver. An AARP poll in 2009 showed that almost one third of women between ages 40 and 69 were dating younger men. Among that, one sixth of women in their fifties preferred men as young as in their thirties.

Despite what many people think, the idea has nothing to do with the libido or sex drive of the younger male. It's the complete opposite and in some cases has nothing to do with sex. Women, especially older women, like the flexibility and sense of adventure of their more spontaneous, younger companions.

In fact, Tessina says most are beyond both of those age period.

What is it About Older Women That Attract Younger Men?

Women are not the only ones to blame when it comes to the controversial relationship. Men too play a major role in being captivated with the mystery and finesse of an older woman. In fact, with technology, older women are looking better every day. Thanks to creative medical advances and the newest weight management trends, older women are no longer seen as Grandma or Sophia from the Golden Girls.

Older women are more likely to come back on the dating market because of today's high divorce rates. They are no longer sitting at home becoming spinsters. Having said that, the commitment issue is also becoming a thing of the past. Not as many women are looking for the picket fence and two car cliche. The important things to some older single women are travel, fun, and the ability to live their own lives.

Younger men also find older women more interesting than their young counterparts. They find that older women are willing to experiment sexually, and most importantly, they are already financially settled so the woman is not looking to be taken care of. This intrigues a lot of young men to delve into the situation.
